I use shading and transparent layers to create a smoke effect.
Soft shading and translucent layers that look like smoke or a veil on the skin.
I mostly use smoke to add depth to a background or bring several elements together in one tattoo, such as portraits and flowers on an arm. I can also use it on its own, with softer shapes.
I build the shading in layers, which takes time. It needs patience during the session and good aftercare while it heals.

What is a smoke effect tattoo?
It’s soft shading without hard outlines that imitates smoke or a veil. It’s used as a background, as a transition between elements or as a motif in its own right.
Can I add smoke to a tattoo I already have?
Often, yes: smoke is great for linking separate pieces or filling gaps between tattoos. Send me a photo and we’ll see how to work it in.
Does it need more than one session?
For large pieces, often yes. Layered shading works best over several sessions, letting the skin recover in between.
